It all starts in a German Bar
Alex and I (David) founded the startup, LollipApp, at the end of 2013, a month after originally coming up with an idea for an amazing app while in Mainz’s cult pub, “Zur Andau“.
We were discussing why the prices of songs in Apple’s online store, iTunes, constantly fluctuated. In order to avoid buying the song when the price is at its highest, one would have to visit the iTunes store daily and monitor the price by hand. In the long run, this would be very annoying. Once, for instance, I had bought an album, only to see that the next day its price was extremely reduced. It drove me insane – I could have bought one more beer with that money! That was the moment, that we came up with the idea for our app, “CheapCharts”. Wouldn’t it be awesome, if there was a notification service for digital media (Music, Film, EBooks, etc.), which always let me know exactly when my favorite titles were on sale or prices had fallen? First, we built the service just for us, so we could start saving money. We soon saw that the idea was something that our friends and their friends would love too. So it didn’t take us long to decide to take the project seriously and that’s why at the end of 2013, we founded our company, LollipApp and started the deal platform, CheapCharts. Our portfolio of media was initially only music, but then rapidly grew to include films, TV series, audiobooks, apps, and MacApps.
In the last years, we have often optimized our app and have expanded so that we now also have a website, an AppleTV app, an Android app, and cover the Amazon store as well. We are so happy that our community has grown so quickly and always give us new feedback so that we can ensure that our users always get what they want. We know that with our features, including the wish list with push notifications and our blog, that we can help all those who are searching for low-priced titles. There is nothing better than getting positive feedback for our work and to read that we could help our users save money.
